What was your original opinion on the movie?
I, personally, liked it as a stand-alone movie (if I had never read the book), but compared with the novel, it stank. What is your view?

It was better than the book I think.
The aerial shots were amazing, and so was the animation and construction of Saphira, for anyone who's tried to animate something so complicated. And we /actually/ got to see shruikan, which is cool. And galby.

Yeah, but I think that they spent more time on Saphira than anything else (except maybe the actual filming...), and I didn't like most of the script that they used. Brom and Murtagh were awesome, as always (love the first scene with Brom, xD), but if you noticed, they only mention Murtagh's name once in the entire film.

Computer Animation Ok. Personally I thought the way Saphira looked was cool. Compared to the book cover, she was much more slender and feminine looking. I was a bit taken aback by the feather-bat wing combo, but it ended up working well. The only complaint I have with the animation is the brief glimpse of Shruikan at the end. He doesn't have the size a dragon his age would have achieved. In comparison to Saphira, he really isn't that much larger. Durza's shadow dragon thing was freakin awesome though.
Costume/Make-Up As for costuming/make-up. Eragon in the beginning = great. Nice plain old ranger clothes and nothing extravagent. Eragon in the end = bad. The armor looked kinda fake to me. Brom = great all the way. He had a perfect mysterious look like you didn't know what was going on with him. Arya = BAD. She had the wrong colored hair and she looked kinda like a bird with all the hairdos they gave her. And the armor? What was she gonna do? Attack them with her hairpins? Anywho... Onto my major pet peeve: the Urgals. Since when are urgals big bald men with tatoos/bumps on their heads? I pictured them as piglike creatures kind of like in Zelda mixed with the lion people from Final Fantasy X and with giant HORNS on their heads. The Ra'zac were ok, not how I pictured them or how they were described... But their coolness balanced it out. Durza and Murtagh were good as well. Durza with his pale skin, dunno what was up with him getting uber ugly in the end though, and Murtagh with all his black leather. It showed how he was good but there was something else going on, like Anakin in Star Wars. Galbatorix seemed to human to me and not enough of a mysterious "all powerful" villain type.
PLOT This is gonna be a long rant. Ok... Here's the problem. They decided to try and fit an epic the length/size of the Lord of the Rings into an hour and forty-five minutes. Reality check people... Each Lord of the Rings movie was over 3 hours!!!
Because they cut so much time, they had to cut A LOT of important plot. Apparently, now when your dragon hatches, she tells you her name. And they could have done a montage (fading through seasons to show passing of time) as Saphira grew up, but instead she flew into the sky and was struck by lightning. Does it look cool? Yes. Is it effective or does it make sense? No. They also cut a lot of Eragon’s training and learning of magic. Not to mention they cut important cities and combined other ones. We never even met Jhoed or anything. You lost more than half the story in the transfer from book to film. You never even really got to know Brom’s character because he dies without having any of the important character building scenes from the book. And what is with Roran going to war? If they decide to make a second movie, the plot is entirely screwed over unless he deserts and goes home or something. And didn’t Sloan get killed off too early?
Here starts the question section because I am too lazy to actually bash the plot anymore:
-And where did the twins go? -And why did Murtagh want to go to the Varden? -How did he know where it was? -Did it seem awkward to anyone when he grabbed Eragon’s sword to protect him because they(the ppl in charge of the movie) took away his hand and a half sword? -Why did Arya keep waking up and falling back asleep? -Why would anyone place a cage with a prisoner in the middle of a BATTLEFIELD? -What happened to the giant rose crystal star thingy that is supposed to shatter? -Why didn’t Eragon go splat when he fell onto Durza’s beastie thing and then fell off of it? -Where’s Nasuada? -Isn’t Murtagh supposed to “die”? -Why was Murtagh’s scar so small? It is supposed to stretch from shoulder to waist.
And the same two horses are in the entire movie. One minute they have them, the next they don’t and then they’ve got them again.
Ok… I am too tired to do this anymore. The plot sucked… Key details were left out. They screwed themselves over for the next movie… They should have had a 3 hour movie instead of an hour and a half. Ok?
It's an ok movie as long as you don't plan on taking it too seriously and you actually read the books.

Movies leave out details all the time. Don't even get me started on my pet-peeve things.
-Why didn’t Eragon go splat when he fell onto Durza’s beastie thing and then fell off of it? That is the coolest question I have ever heard. If only Aralay, if only.
No. Actually... I guess you could compare it to a Caterpillar. When it turns into a Cacoon, it always looks the same size, correct? Then, it comes out of it's shell and it's bigger. I guess that in the movie, Saphira did the same kind of thing, though the lightning strike was a trigger for the hatching, maybe she came out early because of it or something. Anyway, it looked too d**n cool to care.
And look, it's not an epic. It's the size of LOTR, unfortunately yes. But a bigger font. Trust me, the amount of action in that book, I could sujmmarise it in five dot points.
*Dragon egg found, hatches into dragon *Princess rescued, but poisoned *Trainer dies *Goes to rebels, poison cured *Battle happens
That's it. I stretched it by not putting trainer dying when princess is rescued in the same dot point.
Anyway, my point is there isn't much plot to dcut. All those dot-points are in the movie. What other dot points are in the book, that are relevant?

I personally liked the opening scene, when you're on the back of the dragon, like a rider. But I couldn't stop comparing it to the book! Probably because I had finished reading that excellent book only 4 hours before I saw the movie... Yeah, I wanted to kill them to because of how they 'got rid' of Murtagh! Good casting though, because that's how I pictured him in the books. The main thing that bothered me about Murtagh was how he suggested that they went to the Varden...
I need to re-watch the movie, without the book's awesome-ness flowing through my head...then I could give a true opinion.
But, as for the movie=book....my friend said it best: "The credits are my hit list"

Yeah, I thought that the beginning was neat too...but my opinion on the rest of the beginning scenes with Eragon/Arya/Saphira/Roran all went by way too fast. Most of them were really short, and didn't have any more than they needed to have. And Brom's story wasn't long enough...

Plus they made Brom sort of unlikable...because if I hadn't read the books, I wouldn't have cared that he died at all! They made him a mixture of a 'know-it-all', and just an over-all jerk! That saddened me... Plus Murtagh's scar was sort of cheesy looking. Like someone drew it on with a tan colored Sharpie before the shot

xD And in the movie it was almost horizontal, when clearly in the book they stated that it ran from his right shoulder to his left hip. (or maybe it was left shoulder to right hip...I can't remember... )

My thoughts are quite a few on this topic... I disliked the movie when compared to the books. The books are much better. However, not comparing to the books the movie was okay. >_>
I didn't like the way Saphira looked...I pictured her smaller and more serpent-like. I thought Brom should of been older and shorter. Arya looked very odd - I think she would have looked better if her hair was lighter, and her clothes where not what I would have expected. They didn't say or show anything about Katrina; this will give them trouble if they go to make a second movie.
Hrm.

Yeah...as well as the fact that they showed both of the Ra'zac being killed, which will also pose a bit of a problem in the Eldest movie...
You thought that Arya's hair should've been lighter? I thought it was light enough, seeing as her hair was supposed to be black...but that's Hollywood for you...xP

I think they should have made Eragon have brown hair. After all, most of the people from Carvahall are brown headed... except for that one guy.. -can't remember his name-
