Character:
Name:
Durza
Age:
Approximately: A long time. (80 years)
Gender:
Male
Race:
Shade
Allegiance:
Galbatorix/Himself
Description:
Durza is tall and slim with pale skin, almost that of a vampire. He has Crimson hair and maroon eyes, and along with teeth that have been filed to points, he is intimidatingly Demonic. He is tall, and has the build of a runner. Don’t let this fool you however, as even in his weakest moments, he is many times stronger than the most physically fit human being. His magical skills are amazing, matching those of the elves. Along with that, he can see perfectly in the dark, can link spirits together, (as he demonstrates with the Urgals) and can only be killed by a stab through the heart. He is an expert swordsman, and his magic is the most unholy- next to Necromancy, and he can do things with magic that even a rider would find difficult.
Personality:
A cruel, wicked, twisted and evil man, he will resort to anything to get a job done, which usually includes trickery, deception, and assassination. He expects complete loyalty from those he commands, and in return, he shows them a shred or two of respect. He holds himself with an air of contempt, as if he was better than those he walked among. He has no respect for the Varden however, and since he was molded to Galbatorix’s way of thinking, he believes that the Varden should be chased and exterminated, every last one of them.
While fighting, his pompous attitude emerges, as he constantly will taunt an opponent, especially if he is toying with them, something he does quite often. He isn’t a social butterfly, and rarely leaves Gil’ead or Uru’baen, save to lead the army in quelling a skirmish with the Varden.
History:
Durza was once a young child, with a loving family. During those times, he had nothing to do with magic or spirits, as his name was Carsaib. He lived in a nomadic tribe that wandered the lands. Unfortunately, his family was thrown out of the tribe on the account of his father being an “oath breaker” The small family roamed for a few years, but one day a band of bandits attacked them, and only Carsaib escaped by running away into the Hadarac Desert. He wandered for days before finally collapsing.
Luckily for him, an old man named Haeg found him, and after a long time, Carsaib recovered. During his period of recovery, Carsaib learned that Haeg was a very mysterious man, and a sorcerer to boot. No sooner than he recovered, Carsaib begged and pleaded with the old man, begging him to teach Carsaib how to summon spirits. The man refused, but that didn’t stop Carsaib.
After a while, Carsaib’s pleading and begging paid off, and Haeg agreed to train him to be a sorcerer. Carsaib learned amazingly fast, and in a short while, he was able to summon spirits to do his bidding. His life continued for a few years like this, except for the time when Carsaib had to care for Haeg because of the weakness instilled from a failed spell, but that eventually passed. A few years later, the bandits came.
These bandits brutally murdered Haeg, leaving Carsaib to die. In a rage, Carsaib summoned three powerful avenging spirits. Unfortunately, the summoned spirits were way to powerful for him to control. They broke free of his control and turned on him, possessing his mind and body. At that moment, he became Durza.
For a while, he served no master, but he was too powerful for that and attracted the attention of Galbatorix, who immediately placed Durza in second command. Durza, eager to prove himself, thought of a plan to increase their army without worrying about loyalty; Durza could link the spirits of the Urgal Chieftains, making them all unite under the shade and the king. Galbatorix took immediately to this, and Durza set about doing it.
In the end, it worked to perfection; No Urgal would disobey a direct order from their respective chieftain. This especially impressed Galbatorix, as the Urgals would have never united under one banner, as they would tear themselves to pieces.
With the recent capture of the Elven Egg-bearer, Durza’s new task is to extract all information possible from her. Unfortunately, she is proving difficult.

His sword is defaced by a long scratch on the blade, one that was put there a while ago by Ajihad. The fact that Ajihad was able to use a powerful enough attack to scratch Durza’s Blade is something in itself. Durza is a remarkable swordsman, yet he was almost defeated… Once. If you meet him, pray that he isn’t about to kill you…

The air was crisp, not cool, but it was if it was filled with electricity and tension that could snap at any given moment. In the middle of a humongous desert, two men stood facing each other, one armed with a wicked sword, the other standing there, seemingly empty handed. Both men had people rooting for them, but the numbers were drastically off balance. Carsaib stood there, watching Haeg, praying that he would end the battle quickly. Haeg was the one without the weapon, as he was a sorcerer and didn’t need one. The other man however, was a bandit and a thief. All that the younger man wanted was to spill blood. But Haeg didn’t give him a chance to strike, and suddenly, a blast of energy shot out of his hand, killing the man with the sword almost instantly.
Carsaib whooped for joy, but it was short lived. No sooner than his eyes returned to the battleground, he witnessed Haeg shot repeatedly in the abdomen by the men, shot until the point of no return. Just before Haeg could kill himself, one of the men drew his sword and decapitated him.
This produced a scream of pure rage from Carsaib, who began to speak in the ancient language, rage clouding his judgment. He summoned three spirits to kill the band of men. They did without mercy, but before he could seal them away they turned on him. His mistake had been the summoning of three of the most malevolent spirits in the history of the world.
Needless to say, the forcibly entered his mind, shattering his feeble consciousness and taking control. As they took over, he writhed and shrieked, screaming “I… AM… DURZA!”
Durza inspected his new body. It was young and in excellent shape. Stretching out experimentally, he smiled. Finding a nearby stream, he looked himself over. His hair had changed from a light brown to a dark crimson, and his eyes had changed from a bright blue to a deep maroon. Checking his teeth, he shook his head. “Stupid teeth… still look weak, like a humans’.” Laughing to himself, he began the long journey to the edge of the desert. My reign of fear is beginning…
